Under the dash, we tapped into brake light switch. We found the white wire with tan tracer came on when we pressed the brake pedal. Also, with a simple twist of the brake switch, it comes loose from the mount and will drop down, making it much easier to reach! Not, shown, but, We found a easy spot on a metal bracket and grounded the ground wire under the dash with a sheet metal screw. We tapped into the WHITE wire with the Tan tracer for the brake light signal (red wire on the controller) Test to be sure, it must power on when the brake pedal is pushed. (see picture above, under dash) Battery feed was taken from the battery (under the hood) through a auto reset Circuit breaker The brake controller was grounded under the dash, tot he drivers "kick panel" with a small sheet metal screw, but you can ground it anywhere you can find a good ground
Under the hood, we installed a circuit breaker, to power the controller (running the power into the cabin, though the firewall grommet), connecting to the 10mm nut on the main power stud on the battery The brake feed from the controller is the blue Blue wire, We use "double jacket wire" and use the black wire as 12 volt power supply to the rear 7way plug as well as power the controller. At the rear of the truck, we mounted the 7 way plug forward side of the hitch, and facing straight down. (Between the muffler and the hitch). A little harder to reach, but totally protected should you venture off road.... We used the existing 4 flat plug for the three light circuits Remember, most 7 way plugs have different colors- so it might be: yellow wire to the red terminal brown wire to green terminal and green wire to yellow terminal- the center pin on the 7 way is back up lights or AUX |
